Rare masterpiece finds home in Louvre Abu Dhabi

by

The Louvre Abu Dhabi will add a Leonardo Da Vinci painting to its collection this September. The $450m (AED 1.65bn) masterpiece is a 500-year-old oil panel painting by the famous Italian Renaissance artist.

The painting “Salvator Mundi” portrays Jesus Christ in a blue robe raising his right hand in benediction while holding an orb in his left hand, and has already set a record for the world’s most expensive painting. It’s also the first Leonardo Da Vinci painting to find a permanent home in a Middle East museum.

The painting will open to the public September 18.
