New media licensing regulations affect Dubai’s influencer market

On February 28, the National Media Council (NMC) launched a new electronic media regulation system aimed at all online media platforms including, but not limited to, the lucrative influencer market. Under the new regulations, social media influencers profiting from the promotion of brands and businesses now have until the end of June to register and acquire the new regulated media license.

For the more established influencer, the regulations come as a welcomed introduction. However, the AED 15,000 license will definitely affect the smaller, less established “micro-influencers” whose online activities are often a side job.
