Hand gestures – particularly derogatory ones – are not tolerated in the UAE, but now there’s one that will be welcomed.
Announced this week is the UAE’s sign of tolerance – a two-handed gesture of a dove – as a means of helping spread a culture of peace and openness.
The initiative follows the recent unveiling of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Award for Tolerance by the progressive Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and is another step in helping to engender goodwill in a region often perceived by the international community to be divisive and war-torn.
There’s a hashtag too: #tolerance_unites_us.
