Emirates will become the first airline outside the United States to use biometric technology approved by immigration authorities. Using biometric boarding means no manual checks.
The airline got approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection for facial recognition checks at departure gates and expects to make biometric boarding available for all U.S. destinations by year’s end. It was tested at the departure gates of New York and Los Angeles during the peak summer period.
Emirates currently flies to 12 U.S. cities: New York, Newark, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Orlando and Fort Lauderdale.
