The recent announcement of a visit to the UAE by Pope Francis next year highlights the UAE’s continued inclusion and tolerance of different faiths, cultures and nationalities.
Strengthening ties between Christianity and Islam is a keystone of Pope Francis’ papacy and reflects the peaceful coexistence of people in the UAE, where about 1 million Christians live in a largely Muslim community.
Although the pontiff has visited many Muslim countries, his visit to Dubai in February marks his first to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. Importantly, it’s a recognition of open dialogue, which the UAE enjoys with world leaders everywhere.
