With expensive living costs across a large proportion of the country and a heavy emphasis placed on building careers over starting families, the UAE is currently witnessing a decline in fertility rates.
According to global statistics, birth rates stood at 1.39 per woman in the country last year, down from 1.82 in 2010 and a massive drop from 2.4 in 2000.
Good employment opportunities afforded to both genders in the UAE have caused people to shift their focus away from parenthood to concentrate on their careers. Underlying health issues are one of the major reasons behind the fertility shift as well.
