E-waste is the fastest-growing type of waste in the world. As part of a joint initiative between Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City and Dubai Science Park, almost a tonne of e-waste was collected by Uber drivers this summer.
The business parks encouraged people to recycle equipment such as radios, televisions and music players, which were collected June 20–21. Business partners and community members booked rides via the Uber app using the request “UberRecycle.”
Ubers then collected e-waste from the parks and delivered the items to Averda, which was responsible for recycling and waste management.
