The UAE now ranks second globally for adoption of the new IELTS test format, with China in first and India third.
To meet the surge in demand, the British Council opened six computer-delivered test centres across four UAE cities: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain. Dubai has one of the highest conversion rates of computer-delivered IELTS, with 24% of applicants opting for the new format.
Deep Adhikari, director of examinations at Gulf South, commented: “CD IELTS is increasing convenience, mobility and choice for test takers in the UAE and we’re delighted this new format has been welcomed.”
