For the fifth year in a row, the UAE has beaten Sweden and Luxembourg to take the title of “world’s largest donor of official development aid relative to its national income.”
Sharing good fortune with all humanity, the UAE gave AED 19.3 billion worth of development assistance to 147 countries in 2017. This accounts for 1.31% of its national income, according to data recently published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This is almost double what the UN recommends for economically advanced countries, which is at least 0.7% of their gross national income.
