Tourists planning to visit the UAE received a joy boost this week as they will now be able to claim tax refunds from registered companies on purchases over AED 250 as part of a new digital system employed by the Federal Tax Authority.
The number of companies registering for the tourist VAT refund scheme is expected to reach 6,000 by the end of 2018, with most refunds expected to come from gold jewellery, electronic products and luxury goods. This could be a key contribution to increasing tourism attractiveness and further establishing Dubai as the most important global shopping destination.
